Moist With Anticipation
If your like me, you probably thought yesterday's big official unveiling of the redesigned NHL jersey's would include the new team looks. Or maybe better put, you thought with all the hype surrounding the event, the league would take the opportunity to generate some genuine buzz. Nope, peas and corn are what we got. Nothing but a rehash of what had been leaked (by the league) already and covered in depth at USA Today Friday.
The Internet again comes to the rescue. What follows are artist renderings of possible sweaters. No idea if these are development sketches or just a guy with photo shop, but they do give an idea of what may be to come. At the very least it's more than the league gave us.
Boltsmag links us to these at Hound Central 2.0. This is a link to 2k Sports forum that has several teams including the Kansas City whatever's. Take em for what their worth. I hate the Lightning swoosh-ama-jig, and the Red Wings without a horizontal stripe is like Santa without a beard.

3 brilliant comment(s):
Most of these are the same ones taht have been floating around for the months, though a few are new. Notice the tendency towards going back to the 80s/90s colours, and the fact that the Stars' jersey is pretty much a retouch of the ASG jerseys. I call BS.
Oh, and Uni Watch reported that there are no plans to revert to White-home-Coloured-Away. I'm also intrigued by the lack of Columbus designs, considering they're the only team confirmed to be making a change.
The point is the league did not go there. These renditions are more than likely home made, which suits the league just fine.
I think the league realizes people may not be happy about a sweater change, and are easing us into it. The more it's thrown about the more "normal" it becomes.
The pants are a great change, the sweater is a different matter. The speed issue is relative, everybody is 9% faster. By the sweater retaining less weight in moisture, do we not by definition remove a degree of conditioning and desire from the game?
The way I see it, the league did not take the opportunity to display the new team graphics (they have had 3 years to redesign them as well) because they didn't want a big uproar. Just like taxes, a little at a time is more easily digested.
Bottom line is twice the price is the reason for the new sweater. The league is taking it's time gauging the temperature of the water.
